Vocab Words #3

Subtle:

There is just a subtle difference between a legitimate brand and its impostor. For example in this picture the only difference is in the spelling of "Adidas", where in the picture to the left, a black-market product, is spelled "Daiads".

Vehement:

The fans are clearly expressing their loyalty to their team with a vehement enthusiasm. They are unanimously standing, most focused on the game.

Adverse: The two forces here are adverse. The Jedi on the left is on the side of good according to the star wars timeline, and Darth Maul on the right is on the dark side. It looks as if they are about to duel.

Discreet: Kanye was not at all discreet at the Video Music Awards (VMA) when he took the microphone from Taylor Swift and declared Beyonce the rightful winner of the award for best video of the year. he was certainly not sober or judicious in doing so.

Flout:
This renown scene from Oliver Twist illustrates the flout Oliver was treated with. When Oliver asks the person in charge of distributing the food to the orphans, the person scoffs and humiliates him in front of everybody.

Barder and the Flying Turban

Assuming the dog in your story is named Barder, and that the orange turban gives him the power of flight…

Your assignment is to respond to the above visual prompt. Write something you’ll be proud to share and display.

The small italian man decorated with a black, bushy, mustache and a red hat is dropped from the heavens above. His mission? The same everlasting monotony that consumed his life since the late 80's: save the princess.

Step by step he cautiously weaves in an out of pipes, climbs flowers, swiftly avoiding the turtles known as "Goombas". That is until he finds it. He found it while walking across another 2-D surface created to look like grass. What he found was the mysterious yellow brick. As the brick taunted him floating in mid-air, a white question mark revolved around it. Mario wondered what he would get out of it this time.

Mario jumps smashing the brick with his head. From the top of the brick emerged Barder the dog. This was quite a surprise to MArion since he was expecting his usual companion Yoshi the green dinosaur. Oh well. Mario got on Barder and proceeded to find a magical turban that gave him the power of flight. MArio knew what he had to do.

Mario and Barder retraced their steps to find a long, flat, stretch of grass that would act as their run-way. As they sprinted swiftly they until they took off into flight. They flew until they reached in the end of the level taking advantage of this glorious glitch in the game.

Creative Writing #1: MIchael's Story

Our Assignment:

"Pictured to the right is an excerpt from Bill Sullivan’s Turnstile Photography Project. Sullivan took pictures of strangers in New York City the moment they pushed through the turnstiles to ride the subway. The results are surprisingly intriguing - The faces are so expressive; the props and things we carry, revealing. You will be following the preceding link to Bill Sullivan’s project website and choosing a character (or two) to base your story around.

You will be writing a narrative fiction surrounding this pivotal(?) moment of your character(s) day. Is the gentlemen on the left, above, on his way to a bank heist? Is the woman to his right the lifeline for a friend appearing on tonight’s episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and is she fretting because she’s unsure of a question she should know the answer to? Or is thinking too hard about it going to put her on the wrong train, which starts a whole domino of bad (or brilliant) things to happen to her that day?"
